Ugly Dog: Has Your Dog Been Called Ugly?

No one would ever call this Pug an "Ugly Dog", right?
Anyone who knows me well knows that I have a dog “type.” I love all dogs, of course, but I’m consistently drawn to brachycephalic breeds for some reason. Some people would refer to them as an "ugly dog," but I beg to differ.
You know the type—the dogs with pushed-in faces and short fur. Pugs, Bostons, Frenchies, Boxers, English Bulldogs … there’s just something about that look that I adore. (Makes me wonder about those surveys that say humans look like their dogs.)
The sad fact about my preferred canine look is that people see them and say things like, “That dog is so ugly it’s cute,” or worse. People have called my Millie, a smooth Brussels Griffon, ugly period, to my face and without apology.
Sure, she’s unique looking … kind of a cross between a beta fish, a gremlin and a bat. But she’s gorgeous! How dare you call my baby ugly, sir?
I’m not the only one who deals with cuteness-prejudice.
My customer Lucy the French Bulldog has been called ugly too many times to count, and it makes her people boil. Ugly? A Frenchie? C’mon!“Cute” isn’t limited to small and fluffy, folks. Cute can have bulgy eyes, a too-long tongue and bowed legs. Like beauty in humans, it’s subjective.
It’s a fair guess, though, that the people on the other end of the leash from these “ugly” dogs believe that their dog is perfection on four legs. (Even these people. )
Has your dog been called ugly? Do you have any snappy retorts that work for you?

I have 2 pugs who are my entire world...I work at a bank and have their pictures on my station, I had a RUDE customer tell me that "those dogs are ugly". I wanted to snap, they are beautiful, friendly, loving little animals who are my children since I don't have kids. I really wanted to tell him to take a good long hard look in a mirror!
I own two beautiful pugs, a fawn (Rocky) and a black (Willy). Willy is a bit more unique-looking than Rocky- his eyes are a bit bulgy I guess. People are always calling Willy ugly, even several who genuinly like him. One lady in our neighborhood actually calls him Ugly Pugly! Thankfully, he doesnt speak her language so he's a happy and affectionate little love-pug. As is my also beautiful Rocky. There is no accounting for taste- (manners) or lack thereof.
How could people call these dogs ugly?!?!? They're ADORABLE!!!! Trust me, I deal with steriotypes a lot! I am an only child and I was homeschooled so a lot of people though I was spoiled and lazy. I also have a black cat named Sasha and she's super sweet but some people can't get over the "black cats are bad luck" sort of thing. When these things happen, I just try to explain that it's not true and if they don't listen, I walk away and just think that they're wrong and I know my cat (and I) are sooooooo awesome! :)
I have a Tibetan Spaniel whose face is quite squished and whose eyes do bug out a bit. I happen to think she's the most gorgeous thing alive (and so does she), but I actually had a woman say to me once, "That's a face only a mother could love." I was so angered, I replied, "She's probably thinking the same about you." That's my kid you're talking about, lady. Haha
