Big cats go bonkers over raw fresh turkeys

Since most cats love the taste of freshly cooked turkey, its purrfectly fine to gift your kitty with a Thanksgiving treat of a small piece of boneless roast turkey. But it’s crucial to leave out the stuffing and other highly seasoned left-overs and save them for the human members of your family.

However the big cats at Big Cat Rescue are quite another story. Although they go bonkers over turkey just like little cats, they devour their Thanksgiving Day bounty raw and don’t miss the stuffing.

Every year, the 100 + big cats who live At Big Cat Rescue located in Tampa, Florida, (the largest accredited sanctuary in the country dedicated entirely to the welfare of abandoned and abused big cats),  get to celebrate Thanksgiving Day in a very big cat style.

On Thanksgiving, staff and specially trained volunteers make their rounds on the 55-acre sanctuary armed with plucked raw turkeys, chickens and Cornish game hens and veggies. For their nutritious Thanksgiving dinner, lucky “kitty” residents get to eat a bird with gusto—bones and all. (Feeding cooked bones to any animals is dangerous as the then fragile bones can splinter and lodge in their throat or digestive tract.)

But the cost of feeding this delightful big cat crew doesn’t come cheap! Folks who appreciate and love what Big Cat Rescue are doing for these amazing cats in their care can help keep this annual tradition going strong. Since, in order to protect their exotic cats, Big Cat Rescue doesn't allow any food donations, contributions can be made at their secure site to donate a turkey, chicken or game hen, so Big Cat Rescue can purchase them and make their festive Thanksgiving celebration a huge success.

Based on the big cat’s size you can choose a turkey for a lion or tiger, a chicken for a cougar or leopard or a hen for a bobcat, serval, lynx, ocelot, caracal, jungle cat, leopard cat, or a Geoffroy’s cat.

See the cats enjoying their Thanksgiving dinner in November 2011 by watching the fabulous video, “Tigers and Turkeys; A Love Story”, uploaded to YouTube by BigCatRescue.

These big cats are breathtakingly beautiful and deeply loved. How do you feel about them? Share your thoughts with a comment.

Please take the time to review the BCR website and educate yourself. This is one of the 4 star non profit charities in the country. Until you have been there and seen how happy these cats are and the magificent care they are provided, please keep your comments to yourself....until you see them and educate yourself.
