Sun of a Beach Experience!

Published June 30, 2008
Last week the cats got into the water game, with kitties learning to swim. Then I received a press release through a d*g email list about the top ten dog-friendly beaches, from America's Best Online so today I'm giving 'em equal time. FYI America's Best Online has reviews and a killer YouTube offering. Here's the list of recommended beaches. 1) Fort DeSoto Beach, Florida 2) Dog Beach, California 3) St. George Island, Florida 4) Carmel City Beach, California 5) Cape San Blas, Florida 6) Hunting Island, South Carolina 7) Fort Funston State Park, California 8) Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint, Oregon 9) Ft. Fisher State Recreation Area, North Carolina 10) Jekyll Island, Georgia D*gs love it--the smells, the waves to chase, sand to dig, critters to find. And my colleague Jean Fogle, a writer and incredible photographer, put together a book celebrating the fabulous canine fun! She's given permission to share a few of the images. Book Cover For an added bonus, you can even see her spokesdog and canine, Molly, offer perhaps the first ever barking-review of a book. Jean has a blog about the book and I'm sure will give cats a good plug now and then. Wonder when a "Salty Cats" book might hit the shelves? Do your d*gs enjoy the beach? My Magic steals any opportunity to dive into the stock tank to cool off in the 100-degree summers. What other summertime fun do your pets enjoy?

Not one Cape Cod town on the list? Then the list is worthless. I don't know of one beach on the Outer Cape where dogs are NOT allowed. Dogs are allowed in the entire Cape Cod National Seashore. Provincetown was #1 dog town by Dog Fancy magazine. The entire town is beaches!
