Sugar the Cat Survives 19-Story Fall

One remarkable cat has eight lives left after surviving a fall out of a 19-story window, the Washington Post reports. Only this cat's survival is due, ironically, to actions that resembled a totally different species.

Experts believe that Sugar the cat survived a 150-200 foot fall that probably should have killed her by acting like a flying squirrel. Landing with no broken bones or visible cuts, Sugar suffered only slight bruising to her lungs after falling out of owner Brittany Kirk's window.

The miracle survival was brought on by Sugar's in-flight actions, which veterinarian Hugh Douglas says are akin to that of a flying squirrel. Apparently, animals (such as cats) that find themselves falling can "splay their legs 'in a flying squirrel position'" to slow their descent and ease landing.

Looks like Sugar had the flying squirrel technique down pat.
