Spoil Your Cat with a Box Fort

Box forts are a fun way to spoil your cat rotten!

I suspect Cory Williams (the talented creator of those fabulous "The Mean Kitty" videos) must either have secretly sneaked into our house late one night just to observe the play habits of our two amazing Oriental Shorthair cats, Dr. Hush Puppy and Sir Hubble Pinkerton, or his ESP was working overtime. He must have read my mind.

This said, it really doesn't matter either way, because Cory is a gifted soul who truly understands the nature of felines and what we can do to add considerable enrichment to the lives of our precious kitties. In fact, Cory is such a strongly devoted cat lover, treating his two cats, Sparta and Loki, with such a high degree of affection and devotion that I fervently wish to become one of his kitties in my next lifetime.

But before I get to the "meat" of my story, let me introduce Sparta and Loki, up close and purrsonal.   These two popular felines, whose antics have thoroughly delighted and touched the hearts of viewers, worldwide have a serious following.

Sparta, a male neuter is a brown tabby resembling a Bengal-mix. He adopted Cory in July 2007. His birthday is celebrated on May 20, and recently turned four years old. He adopted Cory in July, 2007. According to Cory, Sparta’s favorite activities is wrestling, stalking, playing with crunchy toys, playing fetch, and loves being held like a baby.

Loki is a black and white male neuter. Cory describes him as "half cat and half monkey.” Loki was discovered in July of 2008 at a rescue center in Newbury Park, California. Since he is about the same age as Loki, his birthday is celebrated on the same day. His favorite activities are playing with a wide variety of toys; mice being his preference. He loves to travel, hang upside down, being gently "spanked" and receiving attention from anyone who has the good sense to play with him.

And now for the “meat,” so to speak. In much the same way that the majority of felines respond to boxes, our two boys are totally addicted to them. Whether they are huge or tiny, both will contort their bodies like shape shifters in order to get inside them. The world indeed would be drab and boring without a wide selection from which to choose. They do have a preference for large boxes with partial covers, and boxes that contain smaller boxes inside them.

Since we already have a considerable number of them, both strewn around the house, and stored in our garage, Cory’s video has inspired me to get out my scissors and duct tape to attempt to build as close a replica to the fort featured in the video. Heck… it will stimulate my creativity while at the same saving us some cash.

So I hope this video will likewise inspire you to build a fort in which your kitties can play for hours. I bet those interior secret hiding places will soon be filled with who knows what! <Giggle>

Put your feet up, relax and enjoy “Box Fort” uploaded to YouTube by TheMeanKitty.

Personally, I don't like felines but watching the video made me reconsider. I think cats are misunderstood and to me they are one of the most intelligent domesticated animals there is. - Mario Romano

Fabulous picture and amazing video. I had a kitty which looks like this Loki. Now I have a much cuter one. I love playing with him, but he loves to play at night which irritates me. Another thing is that she makes my room so ugly that I would need the help of Boston house cleaning people the next day. He loves my kid than me and spends more time with him. I have a good collection of his snaps and videos. Now your video inspired me to do something new and different. I am planning to make it a memorable one.

Wow. That guy never stops! I love it! Those kitties--the looks on their faces--it's like, OMG, THERE'S SO MUCH TO SEE AND DO, WHEREVER DO I START?!?!?! I LOVE IT!!! My kitties are so getting their own room like this when we move out of our apt and into our house!
