"Sizzle" the Cat Finds His Owner After Being Burned in Boulder's Fourmile Fire
Published September 23, 2010
Lori Church's cat, Morgan, had been missing from their home in Denver for four weeks.
By then, Lori's mom read an article in her local newspaper about a cat named Sizzle who was rescued from the Fourmile Fire in Boulder. She called Lori and suggested she read the story and consider adopting another cat in need.
As Lori read about Sizzle, she noticed amazing similarities between Sizzle and her missing cat. She told The Daily Camera, "My little guy had been gone and I thought, what if?"
Lori followed her hunch by calling the Alpenglow Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center in Boulder where Sizzle was being treated for his extensive burns. After describing her cat to the staff she drove up to visit.
Sizzle bore a striking resemblance to Morgan, so to be sure she asked a veterinarian if there was a scar on his right arm which he had received in a cat fight. And then the miracle happened! Lori said, "They began peeling off bandages, and there was a scar."
Lori had never been to Boulder, but somehow, on September 11, Morgan, was found hiding under a rock on Sugarloaf Mountain following the Fourmile Fire which started September 6, destroying 169 homes.
Suffering severe burns to his nose and paws, singed whiskers and an injury on his side, treating Veterinary staff named the cat Sizzle. Lori said, "The trauma he had to go through. Who could imagine? He's a little trooper. He was always Mr. Impervious."
Morgan, who Lori rescue from a Petco drive three years ago, can't go home until his wounds have healed but the staff is thrilled with the reunion and Lori can hardly wait to take him home.

I am so glad that Morgan "Sizzle" is recovering and will be reunitied with Lori. :) But I do agree that I hope she keeps him inside from now on......
such a beautiful story. it brings tears to my eyes.
in the early '90s - when there was the oakland hills fire, a friend couldn't find her cat. her house was completely destroyed except for some of the support walls.
about a month after the fire, her cat was found in the bathroom wall - still alive, but dehydrated. my friend and her husband were staying with a friend, so her cat went there to live also.
she went into one of the bathrooms, found the opening at the back of the bathroom cabinet and crawled in there, refusing to come out [same place she had been found after the oakland hills fire in her own home]. the cabinet was cleaned out, and her food and water dishes were put there.
when my friends left after a few months, of course they had to leave her behind, since she wouldn't come out of the wall.
my friend found out months later, that her cat finally had come out. her fur, by that time, had mostly grown back in. she bonded with she new people, so she never went back to my friend.
before i forget -- the cat was almost 20 years old at the time of the fire. amazing cat. as i recall, when i checked back with my friends years later, the cat was still alive. by that time she was 26 or so.
Great story! Cats are amazing and so loving!
Wonderful story. Thank God! Now I hope she keeps him indoors-only so he will be safe and she will not have to worry.
What a nice story. I love to hear about reunions such as this one. I know they will both be glad to go home and resume life.
