We've all heard the myths: shelters pets are bad animals. Animals that come from shelters have something wrong with them, animals that come from shelters are badly behaved, and so on and so forth. In reality, we know that these myths about shelter pets could not be farther from the truth. And The Shelter Pet Project, launched in 2009, aims to show the bright side of animal shelters.
What is The Shelter Pet Project?
The Shelter Pet Project is a public service ad campaign designed to spread "the word that pets in shelters are wonderful and lovable." The project is a joint venture between the Humane Society of the United States, Maddie's Fund, and the Ad Council. The campaign hopes to encourage those looking for a new furry friend to look in shelters first.
What Has The Shelter Pet Project Done So Far?
So far, The Shelter Pet Project has unveiled a variety of public service ads via the print and online media platforms, including ads in magazines, video ads put out on various YouTube channels, and web banners. All of the ads hope to spread the message that shelters should be a primary source for potential owners looking for their next pet.
Aside from the great message that they preach, The Shelter Pet Project's ads are actually quite good. See one of their excellent videos below!

Great ad!! Looking forward to lotss more!
I adopted my cat from the shelter an adult in June. He's the best cat I've ever owned, even more awesome than the kittens we got from shelters and raised. He's such a character!
