Searching for the Purrfect Gift...Hush Puppy to the Rescue!

My husband Marty is definitely someone who has just about everything. With his extensive collection of electronic gadgets, favorite music and movies, it is incredibly difficult to shop for him. And as his birthday was creeping up at lightning speed, for the past few weeks I have been wracking my brain for creative ideas about what to get him. I desperately needed to find him that really special and unique gift he would really appreciate.

I can’t even begin to describe the incredible number of hours I spent surfing the web, shopping through all the tried and true virtual shopping malls, visiting the famous shopping areas for just the perfect present. But no matter what store I dropped into, nothing really “sang” to me which resulted in my anxiety growing exponentially. Since Marty has such impeccable taste, he is someone who is not easy to please.

With my frustration hanging over my head like a menacing dark cloud, I am sure I was not at all fun to be around. My obsession to delight him was definitely turning me into a crazy person. Even our two kitties picked up on my nervous vibes and totally steered clear of me, preferring to curl up together on our Lazy Boy armchair in preference to snuggling with me on the couch.

However, I couldn’t help but notice that Hush Puppy, our Lilac Point, was showing definite signs that he missed my company. He would stare at me with his deep blue eyes, occasionally winking at me, obviously trying to lift my spirits and chase away my blues.

Now even if you are an avid fan of felines, since the event I am about to describe was so bizarre, many of you may not believe what happened.  Just a few days ago, as I was on the brink of giving up on my quest and ready to settle for getting Marty something rather mundane and run of the mill (such as a short-sleeved sport shirt or yet another book on birding), Hush Puppy jumped into my lap and, with the precision of a drill sergeant, shouted a command in my ear that was so incredibly on target that I nearly fell off my chair.

In his most inimitable way he instantly solved my problem. His one word to me was “Zabars”, which of course is the famous appetizing store in New York City which Marty adores.

Half a dozen bagels, herring in sour crème sauce and two packages of lox arrived at the door on his birthday this morning! Marty was ecstatic. Hush Puppy and Hubble grinned from ear to ear as they joined in the celebration with just a taste of the goodies.

Isn’t it wonderful to be owned by such an intuitive kitty? What do you think? Tell us in a comment.

Gosh, who knew!?!

I think that is one smart little kitty. And yes, I do believe that certain animals can talk, so to speak. Not long ago my hubby was in the kitchen giving out puppy treats. Our black Lad Scarlitte was moaning, wanting another one. Hal said, go ask Mamma. As plain as anyone can say it she said, "Don't want Mama". Uh Huh, she sure did.
