Scary Cat Email

Published August 15, 2008
I have found that cat people have a fabulous sense of humor. I cannot tell you how many funny feline jokes I receive in my email box each day. The good news is every one seems to trump the next one, and keeps me happily in stitches, giggling aloud. My two highly intelligent Oriental Shorthair cats generally are perched on the desk next to me while I am reading my mail every morning. They often gaze at me quizzically, wondering what in the world has gotten their "fur-mom" to behave in such a strange manner. Let me tell you that I have even attempted reading the jokes to them aloud, but their general reaction is to just yawn in my face, beating a hasty retreat to the nearest blanket or kitty -bed that I have liberally provided for them in my office. Every once in awhile, however, Hubble, my white cat, shows great interest in watching some of the more hilarious kitty videos I receive. I swear he has a smile on his face as he paws at the screen attempting to invite the featured feline to play with him. I purrsonally think this has to be frustrating for him, but who am I to stop him from trying. The other morning, however, I was a little alarmed when I received an email from a friend. The subject line was “I can't respond to any emails today." I hesitated to open it, worried that something serious might be challenging her. I “bit the bullet”, took a big sip of coffee, held my breath and opened it. The text read, "Something has crashed on my computer and the mouse is missing." For a moment, I was a bit startled and began to think of reasons, which might be causing her problem, and what I could do to provide a solution. I thought about calling my computer guru, but he gets cranky if I awaken him too early. Then I closed my eyes and meditated on the issue for a few moments. I repeated my Mantra to myself several times. I have to tell you I was so relieved when I saw the photograph, which was attached to the email. It was indeed difficult to laugh aloud with all the egg on my face! She sure "got me!" Of course, I learned that one must thoroughly read all email before jumping to conclusions. Hubble, my white cat just shook his head, glaring at me as he departed for more interesting activities, as I tried to gain my composure. I mean, what would you think if you received an email with that subject line? Would you also jump to a hasty conclusion? Leave a comment but please do not pick on me!
