Q: My Puppy Eats Too Fast!

Q: Can you tell me the best way to stop my 5 month old puppy from gorging? She practically inhales her food and doesn't chew anything!  She is a rescue dog from Houston. Her Mom had 4 pups and they all acted that way when I got her.

A: One of the easiest things to do would be to buy a special food dish designed to stop this problem.  One company called brake-fast carries these bowls.  If you want to continue using your regular bowls you can also try to add rocks that are too large to swallow to the food so that your puppy has to work her way around them.  Sometimes is it even a good idea to avoid a bowl and try feeding from a flat surface so that she cannot grab as much food at once.
