Q: How do I stop my dog from eating everything?

A: Every Puggle I have met has a lot of energy! Dogs that chew things are at risk of becoming obstructed with a foreign body. This can require very costly surgery or endoscopy to retrieve the object. I definitely recommend crating your dog when she cannot be supervised. She should not have anything left in the crate with her. When she is allowed out of her crate, (under supervision) make sure that the only things within her reach are chew toys approved for dogs. Provide her with an array of these toys so she can pick and chose which she prefers.

I have toys for my Yorkie to chew on and play with. He is crated when I am away from the house. But he still tries to pull up carpet and chew on it, chew on walls, etc. I don't know what to do. I don't want him to get sick or my home to be destroyed. Any help would be appreciated. I got him from a rescue center and refuse to give him up. clwilson1964@hotmail.com

My toy poodle who is now 2. Loves paper towels, tissues, hole punches from paper, knee hi stockings, etc... (Yes he has had surgery for a blockage) I crate him when we are not at home. Following the surgury I have been extra vigalent about making sure things aren't out for him. But he is extremely quick and waits for any opportunity to grab these odd things,It is as if he has a sixth sense to any of these things he finds interesting to chew and swallow if I see him and say drop it firmly he does, but sometimes he swallows as fast as he can. He is extremely smart, he looks for pockets to go in, purses, he figured out how to step on the trash can and make the top flip up, if I am on the phone or talking with someone I KNOW I must watch him like a hawk, . I really don't want to have to crate him any time he is not sitting right on my lap playing but I want him to be alive. Is there a muzzle like item I could get that would be humane but would enable him to be out and about without my 100% attention. He has more toys than you can imagine and plays with them with me or alone, but he always manages to fine odd things to chew and swallow when I am not totally focused on him.

Provide some toys that she/he can pick up I think is the best way. -Gauthier, Houghtaling and Williams
