How can I safely test to see if my dog can swim?Q: How can I safely test to see if my dog can swim?

A: Most dogs can swim, but not all dogs are good at it! Swimming pools are a problem when dogs do not know how to exit the pool. Dogs will struggle to get out at the side and can get tired and drown. Go into a pool or lake with your dog to support their body weight and see if he or she tries to paddle. If so, you can let your dog swim to the exit. If your dog enjoys swimming in pools make sure that they knows how to get out. It is best never to leave any pets near water unsupervised.

I would recommend that people have their swimming pools covered to make sure that their pets don't fall in! You can get some standard pool covers Indianapolis for any pool, really. Dogs (and cats) are interested in water, and may fall in when you're at work or out of town. It happens all the time!
