A: Fatty tumors can be lipomas, which are benign, or liposarcomas, which are malignant. In order to know which type of fatty tumor your lab has, cytology or a biopsy must be performed. If the mass is benign, your veterinarian may not wish to remove it as long as it is not located in an area that may adversely affect your pet's normal behavior.
