Scarlett, a Chinese Shar-Pei, was adopted after being rescued from the inside of a car engine.
Scarlett, a Chinese Shar-Pei puppy, was found last month trapped inside a place where probably no animal wishes to find themselves: a car engine.
The puppy, who was found battered, burned and drenched in oil, has undergone much surgery and general rehabilitation and, after nearly a month, was deemed suitably healthy for adoption.
Due to her predicament and the outpouring of support for Scarlett in the Arizona area, she was considered a high prize for a potential adopter. As a result, the Arizona Humane Society stepped in and held a randomized drawing that would decide Scarlett's new family.
The winner: Peoria resident Virginia Kemp, who is already the proud dog mother to two other dogs at home.

Why is it that dogs who receive media attention due to their heartbreaking stories have an outpouring of requests for adoption?? Shelters and rescues are full to overflowing with wonderful animals with equally sad and often shocking stories. A drawing for one dog! What did the "losers" do-go to the shelter for another dog, or go home and sulk?
