Product Review: JW Pet Company Skid Stop - Slow Feed Bowl

Published April 6, 2009

The unusual shape of this bowl makes it look more like a spaceship than a food bowl, but don't be fooled, this bowl has a specific purpose.  The large indents on JW Pet's Skid Stop - Slow Feed Bowl are meant to keep your dog from quickly eating their food to help with digestion.

Petside.com put the Skid Stop - Slow Feed Bowl to the test with two of the staff's fastest eating dogs - Cooper, a 6-year-old Yellow Lab, and Truman, an 8-year-old Black Lab.

Although the indents did get the dogs to slow down their eating, the skid stop wasn't enough to keep the bowl from sliding across tile and hardwood floors. Not only were the dogs able to slide the bowl across the floor, after several minutes, they both realized that they could pick the bowl up and knock it over to get the food out faster!

Although the bowl was a little too light for our big to medium size dogs, it did get them to slow down.

We bought this bowl for our seven month old yellow lab. It slowed her down somewhat in eating but it scooted all over the floor and cracked and splintered within three weeks so that we had to throw it out to avoid her cutting herself on the plastic.

I wish this bowl came in stainless! My puppyt eats the bowl as well as the food it holds!

The half moon cut outs are a design flaw. My mini dachshund took one minute to decide it was easier to flip the bowl over that to eat out of the bowl. It would be better if it was a solidly round bowl, without the cut outs. Donna March 26, 2010
