"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”  These famous words penned by William Shakespeare could apply to the awesome task of naming a furry family member.

Since Banfield Pet Hospital (the world's largest veterinary practice) considers the task of naming a pet to be a serious matter, the company annually pulls from its patient data base of more than 800 hospitals in an effort to identify the top trends and the most popular pet names that have been chosen.

So as the year quickly draws to a close, Banfield Pet Hospital proudly reveals the top 10 “Pup Culture” inspired monikers bestowed on many folks’ furry friends in 2012.

Usually, I stay away from "human" names for my pets and name them something to do with their purrsonality like "Snuggles"who was a snuggly kitty or "Prancer", a dog that pranced like a Tennesee Walker. My Harley is named thus because he purrs like one. CJ Sobol is an anacronym for Chapagne Junior Sweet Orange Bundle Of Love. Admittedly I stole the idea from a friend. Marbles is named for the many circles of fur she has strategically placed on her belly and legs that look like marbles. Magic is named aptly since he and I bonded like magic since he was so afraid of people. The pets I have with human names came to me already named. Although, I must admit, I did name my German Shepherd after a person. When we got him, my husband and I wanted a name that would show our support for our troops who sacrifice so much for all of us. But we figured that everyone would expect "Sarge" or "General" or something similar for a large Shepherd. So, after alot of thinking we settled on (don't laugh) USMC Gunnery Seargent Ronald Reagan. We call him Reagan or "Gunny". We named his this way because we felt that we would then not only honor our military, but also one of this country's greatest Presidents (in our opinion, of course).

I named my kitty, "Alaric" after the character from The Vampire Diaries.

I'd think that JWOWW would be a good name for a bow-wow.

I don't care for pop culture or any of the people who make it up, so can't really comment positively, except to say that the Persian in the photo is gorgeous!

I agree, jmuhj. About both your assessment of current pop culture and the beauty of the Persian in the picture. :)
