Pick a Dog for the Candidate's Family!
Published August 19, 2008
While the Republican presidential candidate John McCain and his wife already have 24 pets, the Democratic presidential candidate currently is pet-less. Whatever the result of the election, it’s been reported that a d*g is in the future for the Obama family.
However, their two young daughters (age 6 and 9) suffer from allergies, which narrows the selection. If you were to choose a pet for this high-profile family, what would it be? Would it even be a d*g? How about a pocket pet like a hamster, or even a bunny? There’s no such thing as a “hypoallergenic” pet, although some animals shed less than others and individuals may tolerate a specific cat or d*g better than others.
The American Kennel Club offers a fun poll to consider the various d*g breeds, and the temperament required for a lifestyle in public life. Thus far, the poodle and the wheaten terrier are winning. You can go to http://www.akc.org/poll/special/presidential.cfm to read more about the AKC’s top-d*g contenders, and vote. Results will be announced later this month.

But if you don’t want to limit your recommendations to d*gs, please comment here. What’s your presidential pet pick, and why?
