Petside.com's ranking of the Top Ten funniest, saddest and all-around best pet movies ever made. We watched dozens of films to bring you this list of the very best. See if your favorite made the grade, then vote for which flick you think should be on top!
#1 Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
A wise golden retriever, prissy cat and young bulldog embark on a long journey home to be reunited with their owners. A funny and touching story about teamwork and camaraderie.
Why we love it: Their journey is funny and beautiful (four national forests were used in filming) and Sally Field voices Sassy the Cat.
#2 Eight Below
A team of Antarctic scientists are forced to leave their beloved team of sled dogs behind during a brutal winter. This survival story is based on real events.
Why we love it: It's based on a true story and when you thought Paul Walker couldn't get more attractive, he risks his life to save his faithful dog friends.
#3 The Cat from Outer Space
This 1970s film follows a talking space cat named Jake whose ship crashes on Earth. Can he and his new scientist friends fix the ship before the military finds him?
Why we love it: To get the money to fix his ship, Jake uses his collar's special powers to affect the outcome of horse races and pool games.
#4 Where the Red Fern Grows
This tearjerker about a young boy in the depression era and his two hunting dogs is a powerful story about devotion and loss.
Why we love it: Just try not to cry at the end.
#5 The Adventures of Milo and Otis
A mischievous cat and dog grow up on a farm together and get in some trouble when Milo the cat is swept downriver. Thus begins their adventure to find each other again.
Why we love it: Milo and Otis manage to evade not one, but two giant bears.
#6 Best in Show
This "mock-umentary" gives a humorous behind-the-scenes look at the world of competitive dog shows.
Why we love it: The "Busy Bee" and Parker Posey.
#7 The Old Lassie Movies
Young Elizabeth Taylor stars in these classic films about the courageous collie including Lassie Come Home, The Courage of Lassie, and Son of Lassie.
Why we love it: Lassie saves the day as only she can do.
#8 The Aristocats
When a rich jazz-era socialite leaves her fortune to her cat Duchess, the evil butler plots to steal the money and kidnaps Duchess and her kittens. Fortunately for them, some jazz playing alley cats step in and help save the day!
Why we love it: A whole band of jazzy alley cats and Eva Gabor voices Duchess.
#9 My Dog Skip
Based on a true story. A lonely 9-year-old's mother buys him a dog to the chagrin of his stubborn father. The terrier soon changes the boy's life in many ways and they develop a special bond.
Why we love it: One of the dogs that plays Skip is the famous Jack Russell terrier Moose, who also played Eddie on the NBC sitcom Frasier.
#10 Oliver and Company
In this retelling of the Dickens classic Oliver Twist, an orphaned kitten named Oliver struggles to survive in New York City. But Oliver's luck soon changes when he meets mutt Dodger and then a young girl named Jenny.
Why we love it: Great original songs and Billy Joel provides the speaking (and singing) voice for Dodger.
