Petside Twitterview With Romeo the Cat

Romeo the Cat has purred his way into the hearts of the twitter pet community with witty tweets about the joys and hardships of a cat's life ("What's wrong with taking 12 naps a day? It's part of my job, yo.") His kitty-isms and his determination to make the lives of animals in need better have made him a celebrity.

Romeo vowed to make a 5 cent donation for every cat, dog or person that became his follower and kept his word. The world noticed. With the help of over 3,000 fans and companies like FURminator Inc. and Feline Pine Kitty Litter, Romeo has raised over $5,000 for various pet charities in just three months.

Romeothecat: Am v. organized & get lots of sleep. Plus my staff is pretty decent. Besides that, I LOVE what I do and so it is always fun to me. #rtc

petside: Tell us, Romeo, how did you ever get the idea to start helping animals via twitter? #rtc

Romeothecat: Female staff mgr was doing taxes & charitable contributions part & brainstorm hit. She asked me and I liked the idea a lot! #rtc

petside: Female staff mgr seems pretty savvy. Glad she checked in with you for creative direction. You do good work. Does Pugsley help? #rtc

Romeothecat: Pugs helps sometimes. But he likes napping too much so I have to take the lead cat fundraiser role around here. But he is good moral support and shares his food. #rtc

petside: Team Persian has making a big a difference and is creating a big PURRR in the pet world. How do you decide on a charity 2 help? #rtc

Romeothecat: Each month we do a drawing from submissions made on my blog at http://www.romeothecat.com. The more submissions one gets, the more opportunities that org has to win! We do the drawing the last week of every month. #rtc

petside: Who is the lucky org for the month of May? #rtc

Romeothecat: Beaufort Community Cat Project (http://www.beaufortcats.org) They got lots of people 2 make submissions & it worked! We drew them. #rtc

Romeothecat: The anipals on Twitter have held #pawpawties to help. We also did a national hairball awareness day contest last week. #rtc

Romeothecat: And we will be doing more fun contests with our sponsors coming up including an art show and "litter wars" among other things! #rtc

Romeothecat: Well, I just dictate. Staff does the typing. That's why I pay her da big bucks! #rtc

Romeothecat: Staff is allergic so Pugs and I agreed to try to cut down on the fur via lion cuts. Def. less hairballs and better petting access. :) #rtc

petside: I think you guys look super sharp! What advice would you give to twitter critters and humans who want to get involved in pet charities? #rtc

Romeothecat: There r lots of people & pets who want 2 give so organizing the fundraising and making it easy 2 donate really helps! #rtc
