Petside Items: Sorry Day and Milk-Bones!
Published May 23, 2008
Depending on where you live in the world, Monday will have a different meaning for each person. In Poland, it will be Mother's Day, the UK takes a Spring Bank Holiday, and Australia holds May 26 as Sorry Day-- a noble attempt to reflect on the impact of policies forced on their Indigenous populations.
In the US, however, the day will be marked in memory of those who died in the Armed services defending the nation and its Allies.
At Petside, we took this week to ramp up with a special Memorial Day package, presented to you in conjunction with the Puppies Behind Bars Program.
Happy Birthday to Milk-Bone®! You've all seen those red boxes on the shelves with the sweetest little pups on the cover. Well, along with a few close friends like Ivanka Trump and Cristian de la Fuente of Dancing With The Stars, Milk-Bone® celebrated its 100th Anniversary (that's 700 in dog years) in Times Square by mounting the world's largest dog house.
I think this makes Milk-Bone® an official institution!
While shoutouts are going on all round, thought we should take a minute to acknowledge that today is World Turtle Day --
sponsored by the American Tortoise Rescue (ATR), the day was created as an annual observance to help people celebrate and protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing habitats around the world.
If you plan on getting the grill out this weekend, remember the hazards that this season poses to your pet. The grill itself being the most obvious, be reminded that this is also high season for other concerns.
In my own backyard I've got two wild rabbits, an opossum that lives under the shed, and a skunk that apparently gets scared at night casting off a scent around the house just in time for my morning walk with Maxi. Peeeew!
In addition to the usual scurry of squirrels...they all potentially spell the R-word...Rabies.
Enjoy the weekend, and remember your Armed Forces.
