Petside Items: Animal Abuse and homelessness

Published May 20, 2008
They say the camera doesn’t lie? Yesterday, I assumed the news about Anjelina Jolie was just tabloid sensationalism, but sadly, in a videotape from 1999, Angelina herself has admitted to being an animal abuser in her early and drug-torn years. Personally, I’ve never really followed the Bradjolie global travels – Hollywood is a business after all. But this inhumane story begs the question…”what was she thinking?” Again, I haven’t exactly tracked her history, and the current news reports are not clear as to how old she was when she had all these pets…or horrors, could it be that was she doing hard drugs whilst living at home? Call me old-fashioned, but dyeing your pet mouse blue – apparently not using vegetable dye – seems like it should have been a red flag to a parent not to buy her any more pets. Or, what about a few handbooks that might explain how not to take your hamster into the shower. I guess she’ll explain soon what she meant about “trying to kill” her pet snake. Dogs and cats living in a Vietnamese temple met a sad fate when they where poisoned by robbers. The thieves stole a statue of Buddha, considered priceless. And yet, right here in California, a 14-year-old has been arrested for poisoning her two pet dogs after her parents angered her about bad grades Despite severe economic crisis, at least there is one person who has decided that while she may have to give up everything else, she would not give up her pets. After losing her home and then her apartment, Barbara Harvey has taken to several parking lots assigned by the city as overnight shelters. Along with her two Golden retrievers, Barbara sleeps in her car. Best of luck Barbara. Petside has launched a compelling package in honor of the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
