Aniston Bids Farewell to Fido: People

When it comes to canine companions, it's worth noting that stars, celebrities who we often think we have nothing in common with, have hearts, too. This week, news broke that Jennifer Aniston bid farewell to her canine Norman, her faithful companion of 15 years, a few weeks back. The pup was known for always being on location with Aniston, and always being by her side. For sure, this is some sad news to kick off this week's Digest. We hope Aniston is doing OK, and send our heartfelt condolences to her for her loss.

Digest in The Digest. . .Say What? Woof Report

That's right, folks. We'll use this space in our Petside Digest to give a quick shout out to another Digest-type blog of note, the digest compiled over on Woof Report. We've checked it out, and they have some pretty good stories that they post. Give them a look!

Atheists Offer Rescue for Dogs on "The Day of Rapture": Google News

So, pretty much, we've been told by numerous sources that this just might be the last Petside Digest ever on account of the world is supposed to end at some point on Saturday...again. Certain religious sects have been calling this Saturday May 21 the most certain "Day of Rapture," and the day that the world will (for sure this time) end. For those that believe this--have you thought about what you'll do with your pets?

Atheists have, even if the believers haven't. They have set up adoption and rescue organizations in over 26 states and had people sign contracts that state that if the "Day of Rapture" is to happen, the atheists, who will be left behind on earth, will drive to the homes of those who signed the contracts and adopt their pets, taking them in as their own. What a nice gesture.

As you might expect, the atheists are expecting to do absolutely none of this on Saturday when the day passes like every other Saturday in recent memory.

Bronx Zoo Budget Cuts. . .Oh My!: CNN Money

The Bronx Zoo is expected to be the latest victim of Bloomberg budget cuts in New York. According to a report on CNN Money, the zoo is expected, if the fiscal budget proposed by Mayor Bloomberg earlier this week were to pass, to lose over half of its operating costs for the year. Cuts this big are expected to have a major impact on the nation's largest urban zoo. Yikes!

Adoptable Pet of the Week: Ziggy

Ziggy is a young Sheltie/Golden Retriever mix who was rescued from a kill shelter in Ohio. He is affectionate with people and great with other dogs. And, to top it all off, he's quite cute. Give Ziggy a chance!

Ryan, the Rainbow Bridge will be overflowing with pets and their people should the world come to an end on Saturday. Purrsonally, our two guys predict that the world will be around for a long time, as long as folks make sure that our environment is protected and preserved.

But there is LOTS of room at the Rainbow Bridge JUST in CASE!

Will look for an update on Monday:)
