Michael Vick Supports Anti-Dogfighting Bill: Dogster

First, we'll start this week's Digest off with the news portion, and what dominated some of the headlines in the pet world this week. As profiled in this report on Dogster (as well as elsewhere), NFL quarterback Michael Vick, who you will remember was convicted a few years back of animal cruelty in charges related to dogfighting, has announced his support of a bill in congress that would make it illegal to attend a dogfight or a cock fight.

For Vick, the law is meant not just as punishment for those that do get involved in these types of activities, but is meant to prevent people from being involved in the activity in the first place. Education, he cites, is an important part of eventually eliminating animal cruelty in this regard.

No matter how you feel about Vick, you can't help but give him credit for stepping up to the plate in trying to right his wrongs. With his return to the NFL, he very easily could have dismissed PSA's like this and turned his back on the cause entirely.
