The Petside Digest: This Week's Must-ReadsPublished October 15, 2010
Cat People are People Too: NY Times Opinionator Essayist and author Sloane Crosley extolls the virtues of being a young cat lady in NYC. I can't even describe her brand of genius so here's an excerpt: "As a woman especially, it takes a little self-bolstering to own a cat and be content with publicly adoring it. Did you ever hear the one about the spinster found dead in her pink bathrobe, surrounded by golden retriever puppies? Me neither. I once saw a candid shot of the model Daria Werbowy holding her collection of Siamese and Abyssinian babies and thought: do you have any idea how attractive and cool you have to be to live in Manhattan and own that many cats?" BBD and Cat Myths, Debunked: Petside.com If you haven't read it yet, check it out. We've gotten an outpouring of love for all the big black dogs and black cats out there. Here are some examples from our awesome Petside Facebook constituency:
- Janet Potts says, "The first cat I adopted was black. I was looking for personality and she had it in spades. Some of the best cats I've worked with at the animal shelter where I volunteer have been black. We're currently running an Adopt a Black Cat event! "
- Katie Mikszewski Rest says, "I have a black kitty named Minnie and she is my love! I have always wanted a black cat because they are so regal and beautiful."
- Beth Cantrell says, "I adopted a black dog from Okinawa, Japan and brought her back to the states. My grandparents now have her, but don't wanna give her back (They took her in for me because I had to move to England). She is VERY well loved and is SO happy now!"
- And our author, Kerri Fiveoact-Campbell, says, "I'm involved in a project to help K9 Cuisine get 5,000 FB fans by the end of the month. One of the rescues receiving the food will be the one where we adopted Chloe, our new BBD. Here's a link to my blog at K9 Cuisine, where you can read more about the initiative!"
