An End to the Dog Wars...for Now: Jezebel

Last week, we brought you the story of the certainly despicable-sounding dogfighting app that was available for purchase via the Android Marketplace. Perhaps thanks to an unlikely team of celebrity powerhouses Alicia Silverstone and reformed dogfighter himself Michael Vick, the app has been taken down...at least for now. While some cite pressure from the public (including the celebrity duo), the game's creators insist that the app has been taken down in order for it to implement updates that improve gameplay. For the time being, animal lovers can be thankful that this app is temporarily off the market. One would only hope that the game's creators and its marketers could see what seems to be like a true error in judgment.

"Fishy" Smuggler Busted: New York Daily News

Yesterday, the New York Daily News broke a story about a smuggler that was busted last year for trying to import what the paper deems "'fish-zilla' snakeheads" into New York. The fish, which are seen as hazardous to the NY ecosystem, have been banned from being imported into the city for their potential to wreak havoc on the aquatic food chain if they were to somehow escape. The fish are a considered a delicacy in some Asian nations, and can be sold for a good price due to their absence in the area. The smuggler, Yong Hao Wu, faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
