Helping Hand for Japan: Petside
To start off this week's Digest, it's only right that we take a minute to mention the devastation that has struck the country of Japan since our last posting. Last Friday, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake rocked the nation, and triggered a massive tsunami that killed countless Japanese citizens. Not to be lost in all of this is the dire situation that the nation's animals and faithful pets face in the wake of this terrible disaster.
In a recent article, Petside covered this angle of the catastrophe in Japan, and offered ways that people can help out the animals of the country. In these times of need, it's necessary that we band together and help each other out, a concept that is extended not only to those of the human race, but to our loyal animal companions as well.
Canine Camaraderie: The Daily What
In keeping in discussing the tragedy of last week, we have another tear-jerking story regarding two dogs affected by last Friday's tsunami.
A video posted this week by The Daily What showed two dogs that would not leave each other when they were found by Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support in Mito, Ibaraki. One of the pups, who was unwounded for the most part, would not abandon the other, who had sustained injuries to its leg. There was a bond between the two animals that was unbreakable, even by the biggest of waves.
The two canines are currently doing fine; they have been rescued and are in the care of a local shelter.
Annoyed With Your Cat? It's Not a One-Way Street: Paw Nation
Do you find yourself annoyed with some of your cat's habits? According to a recent article on Paw Nation, your cat may also be annoyed with you!
The article cites several things that we as pet parents and cat owners do to "hiss off" our cats and trigger some of their bad behaviors. It's quite comical and, if you're a cat owner, definitely worth checking out!
Does Daylight Savings Time Affect Pets?: Yahoo
According to a recent article on Yahoo, people aren't the only ones that are peeved at losing an hour of sleep.
According to the report, some pets are so in tune with their owners' schedules that they are directly affected by Daylight Savings Time and thrown off by the change in schedule. Since animals' routines are dictated by the sun, the man-made observance of Daylight Savings Time doesn't necessarily register with them right away, and they may be confused at why they are doing things at different times. And you thought you were the only one who was annoyed that it was still dark when you woke up in the morning!
Adoptable Pet of the Week: Bryan
In the spirit of the now-belated St. Patrick's Day, our adoptable pet of the week is Bryan (pictured above), a mix between an Irish Setter and an English Setter. He is up to date on all of his shots, is good with kids, and is looking for a new home after just being given up recently. Help bring the Luck of the Irish back to Bryan and help him find a loving home!
