Pastry Masters Compete in Canine Candylands: Culture Map Houston
It's the time of year to satisfy everyone's (and every dog's) sweet tooth! Lucky Dog Rescue held their third-annual "Christmas Tail: A Gingerbread Dog House" competition at Hotel Icon, where 22 local pastry chefs crafted munchable masterpieces that were auctioned to benefit dogs in need of homes this winter.
This year's winner was Fluff Bake Bar's Rebecca Masson, who put together an astounding Parisian street style gingerbread house complete with a Chiclet "bow-langerie," pink wafer "maison du coco" and pretzel stick "spa du chien." Need we say more?
Sweet Charity ... For the Pet Lover This Holiday Season: PetMD
We love PetMD's Dr. Patty Khuly. Instead of receiving gifts for this holiday season, she suggests that her clients and friends donate to a pet charity under her name, since she "cherish[es] most the DIY, experiential, and charitable gifts above all." And, with the considering the craziness of trying to find and purchase a present today, she encourages you to taking the anti-consumerist approach as well and contributing to some of your favorite charities!
Check out her blog on PetMD to find out some of Dr. Khuly's recommended organizations, and consider taking the gift of giving o another level this winter!
Volunteer Tail: ARK's Maggi Hall: Petside
Have you heard about our latest Volunteer Tail, Maggi Hall? We've featured her this month for her tireless work with Animal Rescue Konsortium (ARK), a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization she founded in 2008, dedicated to rescuing animals from individuals who cannot care for them any longer, while also saving animals from being killed in overcrowded shelters.
As our Volunteer Tail and an incredible animal advocate, Hall challenges Petside readers this month to further the "No Kill Movement" by mentioning the campaign to a staff member at your local shelter. Get out there and make us all proud!
Do you know anyone you'd like to nominate for the next Volunteer Tail? If chosen, they'll be featured on the site and receive $500 for their charity!
Adoptable Pet of the Week: Lila
Besides having the coolest do ever, Lila, is a happy, playful, and social Jack Russell Terrier mix, with incredible spunk for her age. She plays well with other dogs, cats, and children, but can also be the perfect companion for a quiet household. She is up for anything, and ready for you!
