It would be a disservice for us not to begin this latest edition of the Petside Digest with what is probably the hottest news item this week: Jack the Cat, the cat lost by American Airlines in New York's JFK Airport, has been found!

After missing for two months and gaining a rather gargantuan group of devoted Facebook followers, Jack the Cat has been found. But he's not quite out of the woods. Diagnosed with fatty liver disease, Jack the Cat is now fighting for his nine lives.

Our only hope is that Jack the Cat can hear the prayers of cat-loving people everywhere and make it through this ordeal!

A Different Side to Terry Thompson, Man Responsible for Animals Killed in Ohio Last Week: People

Last week, 49 animals were killed in Ohio thanks to the actions of Terry Thompson, the preserve owner who let his exotic animals free before he took his own life.

This week, an article in People showed a different side to Thompson, portraying him as a troubled and sympathetic man.

Dog Survives Gas Chamber, Now Up for Adoption: Washington Post

So this is a pretty bizarre story, to say the least. Apparently, a stray Beagle mix christened "Daniel" has cheated what was supposed to be an Animal Control sanctioned death in Alabama. According to the report, this pup was supposed to be put down, but he miraculously survived the gas chamber.

After he survived, volunteers for the Eleventh Hour Rescue Group stepped in and helped to find a center that would put the pup up for adoption. Daniel is now adoptable at a shelter in New Jersey.
