Chinese City Lifts Ban on Dogs: Petside

We'll start this week's Digest off with a small dose of a harsh reality, if you will.

In the city of Jiangmen in China, government officials were recently ready to place a ban on dogs in the city, deeming the animals a health hazard to the general public. They were to start asking residents to relinquish their dogs to the authorities from August 10 to August 25, and begin actively seeking dogs after that on August 26. They would be relocated to foster homes / adoption centers outside the city limits.

Due to public outcry, government officials decided to lift that proposed ban in favor of implementing a series of lifestyle-limiting laws, including making it illegal to bring your pup to public places, such as parks or city squares.

While it's good to hear that a ban is not officially in place, it seems that the plight of the Chinese dog owner is far from over. We'll keep you covered on this story as it develops more.
