Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder--Not Just for Humans: New York Times
We'll start this week's Digest off with a bit of sad news. A new report shows that some combat dogs who have served overseas alongside military personnel may also suffer from the mental stress of combat. According to the report, nearly five percent of dogs serving overseas (approximately 650 dogs) are developing canine PTSD.
The report is incredibly interesting. It's not the most uplifting for this fine Friday, but definitely worth a look.
Horse Slaughter Ban Lifted: Petside
Recently, President Obama signed off on a bill that, unfortunately, lifted the five-year-old ban on horse slaughter in the United States. As a result, horse slaughterhouses may begin to crop up in the United States once again, and horse meat may find its way to your local grocer.
