Pets Alive Animal Shelter Introduces Seminar on Pet Hospice

Pets Alive’s mission is dedicated to improve the lives of companion animals "by any means possible" through rescue, adoption advocacy, rehabilitation, intervention, networking and education. It is one of the oldest No-Kill facilities in the United States and has saved the lives of countless innocent animals.

Last year Petside.com featured an article in which we shared some of the outstanding rescues in which Pets Alive participated resulting in outcomes that were very successful. Additionally we highlighted some of their plans and future goals to expand the services they offered.

So the other day, I was excited to hear about a couple of the events Pets Alive has in store for folks living in or visiting the greater New York City area. Pets Alive Westchester is presenting “An Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Canine Hospice”, a seminar on Pet Hospice Care on Tuesday, July 10 at 7:00 PM at 100 Warehouse Lane South in Elmsford, New York. 

This free session will interest people considering providing end-of-life care for terminally ill cats and dogs, but aren’t sure how to get started, who want to know more about the experience of providing hospice care and what this greatly needed service entails.

Experienced practitioners will guide the process, followed with a Q&A period to answer questions. Pets Alive Westchester staff will be on hand to share about what they can do to be supportive to folks wishing to get involved in hospice Care for pets.

Pets Alive in Middletown is holding a unique fund-raising campaign. It’s a shoe-recycling program which helps others while at the same time raising funds for their shelter.

Do you, your neighbors, family members, friends and co-workers have a closet full of shoes that are no longer worn and should have been discarded? If so, here is a great idea to put them to good use.

For every pound of shoes they collect, Pets Alive will make 50 cents.  They plan to raise on average at least $500 with just 25 boxes filled.  You can find your SoleMate by putting a note in the shoe with your name and address.  The note traces the path your donated shoes take to meet the new feet of those who receive the shoes, so you will know the name and location of the recipient.
