Just like human food, the food our pets consume can be very fragile. Like the food we put on our plates each night, the food we give to our pets is only as good as the ingredients it contains, leaving it susceptible to an array of issues including toxic mold and attracting unwanted critters that would warrant pet food recalls. With this in mind, it's more important than ever to monitor what our pets eat, and to learn how to preserve it and keep it safe. Moreover, it's important to also know how to recognize if your pet's dinner has caused a potential problem.

Thankfully, there are preventive measures that can be taken when it comes to keeping our pets safe during feeding time. Dr. Marty Becker and our friends over at Vetstreet.com have done a little digging and come up with a few tips on how to ensure your cat or dog's safety during dinner.

Among other things, Dr. Becker suggests taking the preventative measure of keeping tabs on when and where you buy the food that you feed your pet, and keeping receipts of the purchased items until a replacement supply is bought. Additionally, he provides further advice on how to monitor your pet for symptoms of potential ailments brought on by food-associated illnesses, and provides next steps on what to do if you suspect your pet's gotten sick.
