Pet Fashion Week in NYC

Published August 22, 2008

Did you know that fashion for pets is--er, huh--high fashion? Silly me, I thought cats and d*gs only cared about fashion if it smelled good, bounced well, or made a funny sound as it splatted on the floor.

But designers of d*ggy and kitty accoutrements beg to differ. They claim that innovation and change are essential to any market, including the pet industry. So each year the Pet Fashion Week Lifestyle Innovation Award is presented to the one company that’s demonstrated highest excellence in a chosen category. Sponsors of the award include The Pet Elite, Pet Business, and PupStyle.com.

This year’s category for the contest is pet dinnerware. I wonder if they’ll have pets test the products?

Eight designs have been chosen from over thirty submissions in the luxury pet lifestyle market. The award provides the winning designer with exposure, promotion, and economic support to the tune of $10,000 value.

Finalists are Alessi, Contech, Hepper, HugX, Kevy K Designs, Vivid Product Design, Unleashed Life, and Whiner and Diner. The designs are on display at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City on August 23-24, and the winner will be announced this Sunday. For more information you can visit petfashionweek.com.

Don’t tell Seren and Magic. They’ve been eating out of the same dinnerware for years.
