Pekingese, Best in Show 2012 = By Sara Bogush

A Pekingese claimed the coveted Best in Show title at the 2012 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Seven dogs received outlandish standing ovations that would have made the newest New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin blush. At the 2012 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, the crowd unleashed a voracious round of applause as the Group winners from Nights 1 and 2 geared up to compete for the ultimate title: Best in Show. To the crowd, any one of these dogs could have been deemed worthy of the prestigious prize. But, as Westminster shows us year in and year out, there can only be one Best in Show winner.

This year, the honor of being crowned Best in Show at the 2012 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show has gone to a Pekingese called Ch Palacegarden Malachy. In this year's competition, this Pekingese stood apart from the field of almost 2,500 dogs, earning the breed its fourth Best in Show title at Westminster.

In the Group judging, which took place over the course of two nights (including directly preceding the Best in Show competition on the second night), Ch Palacegarden Malachy displayed a potential to take home the top prize in this year's competition, winning the crowd over with his graceful moves on the green carpet. And the premonition proved to come true; in the Best in Show competition, this Pekingese displayed the same grace and left the crowd (and Judge Cindy Vogels) mesmerized.

Truly, it has been a magical conclusion to two eventful days at the 136th annual Westminster Kennel Club Show.
