Here's a look at some animal abuse organizations that are working to end animal cruelty and help animals lead safe and healthy lives.

There are currently a variety of animal abuse organizations that strive to end cruelty to animals. Each group has a different focus, but their ultimate goal is the same: helping animals live safe and healthy lives.

Animal Abuse Organizations: Humane Society of the United States

One of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations, it does not operate shelters (despite the name "humane society," also used by many local rescue groups), but instead uses its considerable wealth to fight animal abuses and educate the public about proper treatment of animals. Initiatives include lobbying against animal abuse in filmmaking and TV production, urging governments to include animals in disaster planning and working to eliminate unsporting hunting practices.

Animal Abuse Organizations: American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)

This animal abuse organization focuses primarily on the protection of companion animals. Its activities include a pet poison-control hotline, education efforts to raise standards in shelters and the Humane Law Enforcement division, which has investigatory powers in New York state.

Animal Abuse Organizations: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

Perhaps the best-known of the activist animal-rights organizations, it promotes the idea that animals are neither property nor food, and works to end factory farming, fur farming, hunting, fishing and the use of animals in clothing. It has been criticized for, among other things, the use of Holocaust imagery in its advertising.

Animal Abuse Organizations: Local Animal Shelters

In some areas, shelter officials have some investigatory and enforcement powers in animal cruelty cases. They may also be active in lobbying for legislation protecting animals.

Animal Abuse Organizations: Local Police

Many departments have one or more animal control officers. If you're passionate about ending animal abuse, consider joining one of these organizations.

HSUS may be the oldest, but it is no longer the most respected organization as they have been taken over by animal rights groups whose only goal is to end all use of animals for companions, work, food, research, entertainment in any form and that means the pet you have in your home now. Both HSUS and PeTA (Wayne Pacelle the director of HSUS use to work for Ingrid Newkirk the director of PeTa) have made statements against pet ownership and passed laws that are against the future interests of pet ownership like limit laws, mandatory spay and neuter ( if everything is neutered or spayed where do you think your next pet will come from) which is injurious and life shortening for you pet. Both organizations receive low ratings for their so called charity work. They spend big bucks buying your representatives to push a no pet agenda. HSUS is now being investigated by the IRS for misuse of their charity rating. They are the ones who invented the word puppy mill and factory farm to propagandize the public into giving and to slandering all people who work with or raise animals. Do not give to either one for each time you do you hasten the end to your pet ownership.

Both of these organizations are working to end all use of animals as companions, guidedogs, therapy dogs etc. Both organizations kill or recommend killing of all animals they purport to save. To give to HSUS or PeTA is to end your animal relationship. They pass laws that limit how many pets you can own. PeTA states as their goal that there will be no more cats or dogs bred and when all remaining shelter dogs die off there will be no more pets. To give to these organizations is to end pet ownership. For any business to support them is the height of stupidity because where would you be without pets.

HSUS and PETA have no business being in a list of those who wish to protect animals. They are left-wing lobbying outfits who don't give a flip for animals - - just for their own power, wealth, and agendas
