Pets: Miniature Schnauzer named Dixie Q: Tell us about your pets!

Dixie is a purebred Mini Schnauzer. She was with a family that could not keep her, and did not have the time to take care of her. She was neglected and kept in a kennel most of the day. She's much happier now!

Q: Does your dog train with you?

Dixie comes to the track and runs with me all the time, her doggy sitter also takes her out on runs with him and enters her in community races.

Q: Do you travel with your dog?

When I can, yes.

Q: Are you involved in any animal rights groups?

I am very interested in human-animal conflict solutions. I volunteered with the National Wildlife Society, Environmental Conservation society, and the Adirondack Black Bear project. I also attended the National Wildlife Society conference in 2005 to learn and listen to the research and solutions people were coming up with in dealing with the expansion of the human population into areas that were originally animals' homes, and how to avoid human-animal conflict. The Adirondack black bear project was also a great way to spread knowledge to people on bears and bear behavior while they were out camping.
