A Novel Pet Present Idea: Suitable For Furry Friends

Published May 12, 2010
If you are really into pampering your pooch and spoiling your adorable doggie in the manner to which he/she is accustomed or even to which he/she aspires, here is one of the most brilliant ideas for a pet-related gift that I have run across in a long time. And the beauty part is that even though this ready-made item is available online for sale, with just a little imagination, and vision and motivation accompanied with some simple materials, it is easy enough for just about anyone to make themselves, providing one has a vintage suitcase on hand and willing to sacrifice it for the cause. Of course, it is possible, if there are also a couple of cats residing at your home, your canine may find him/herself out in the cold. I am sure this piece of pet furniture will be highly utilized. If you will recall a couple of months ago we published an interesting and creative item concerning the transformation of an old-fashioned computer monitor into a kitty bed. Well this item may even trump that idea in spades! Grab that old-fashioned suitcase hanging out in the closet and easily transform it into a fashionable little bed that any self -respecting hound or finicky feline will be proud to use! While etsy.com is presently offering a " vintage bright red suitcase which has been cycled and "upcycled" into an inviting sleeping spot at a reduced price at this time (click to see it), it seems simple enough for folks to be able to fashion with little technical talent. In fact it is a fascinating project upon which to embark, while at the same time finally getting use of a suitcase that has been gathering dust in the closet. Sturdy and safe, this item can accommodate a small dog and/or a cat or two. With spring-cleaning in full swing in many of our homes, this idea has a lot of charm and appeal in my opinion, and I greatly regret that ages ago we gave away our last bulky suitcase in preference for luggage made of soft and flexible material. I now certainly wish that this idea had presented itself before we had a chance to recycle it to such good use. So for those of our readers who still have an old-fashioned suitcase somewhere around the house or squirreled away in the attic or garage, have some fun and check it out. Do let us know what you think of the idea and leave a comment.

Dang! We used to have one of these. I let it go when I moved here. Oh well. It's a great idea and I love recycling/reusing things, especially mid-20th Century stuff!

Well I guess if you have a suitcase that is not of use any more, this could be a good idea. However, I have found that other than dog beds, my dogs won't go anywhere near something I want them to. But then, my dogs are pretty dumb most of the time.
