Newt Gingrich makes political play for pet lovers with website, Pets with Newt 2012.

While Republican Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich's hopes for winning the Republican nomination are dwindling after his most recent defeat to Mitt Romney in Florida's primary, that doesn't mean his campaign is quitting. In an opposite fashion, Gingrich is clawing more than ever before, clinging to any anti-Romney sympathy voters might have that they can find.

One such anti-Romney sentiment comes in the form of animal lovers who were taken aback by the greatly chronicled Romney "roof dog" incident, in which Romney apparently tied his dog to the roof of his car for a 12-hour family car trip over 20 years ago. And Gingrich is trying to capitalize on it, with an apparent campaign website titled "Pets with Newt 2012".

The site, as you can imagine, tries to paint Gingrich as an avid animal lover. And, naturally, the implied message is that if you love America, and you love animals, you'll vote for Gingrich, who loves both. And why wouldn't you? The animals on the site's home page, of course, are "with Newt."

Aside from its message that is so far-fetched to the point of being funny, perhaps the most priceless thing about this gem of a website is the photos it features of Gingrich awkwardly appearing beside animals. The site's home page alone features Gingrich awkwardly and hilariously holding, of all animals, a lemur.

The site looks so badly that it seems like a hoax, but a little stamp at the bottom of the page seems to indicate that it's paid for by "Newt 2012", Gingrich's campaign. It also provides links to donate to Gingrich's official campaign.

Newt treatss his wives horrible why would he be kind to animals? His wife wouldn't want her hair messed up by a dog jumping up on her. This couple is a farce.

Good for Gingrich then! Why is the editor of this article making fun of him? Because he is a conservative, that is the ONLY reason; you individual freedom hating muck. It's obvious that the editor of this piece is very politically biased, after all you work for the extremely left wing biased "NBC". We are sick and tired of you people bashing the right! There are millions of people on the right who LOVE animals. I have read stories about SO many liberal hicks who abuse animals. As if YOUR "party" is immune! What IS laughable is that you lefties are supposed to be so "tolerant", yet true tolerance is the farthest thing on your agenda. PUHLEEEEZE!

There is no way that you can justify driving 12 hours with a dog on the roof of a car. It's animal cruelty pure and simple. This thoughtless and insensitive act may very well prevent Mitt Romney from being elected because voters of all political ideologies love dogs.
