New Year's Resolutions

Do your pets have any New Year's resolutions?

What I hate most about the New Year is those gosh darned obligatory New Year's resolutions; a ritual in which we humans annually engage. My husband Marty and I set out upon our lofty goals with great intentions, but as the expression goes, often these good intentions are the way in which the road to hell is paved. Of course, tops on both our lists include getting more exercise, losing weight and eating more healthfully.

So last week I started wondering if it’s fair for just Marty and I to perform the necessary soul-searching to accurately assess any changes we need to make to enhance our lives?  Since Sir Hubble Pinkerton and Dr. Hush Puppy, our two Oriental Shorthair cats are considered part of our family; shouldn’t they too be making resolutions of their own?  Absolutely!

Well let me tell you! The boys were not at all thrilled by my suggestion.  As cat people know only too well, cats abhor any types of changes unless it means being served a more delicious cat food flavor, given a larger sunny spot on the carpet on which to nap, or being provided with a taller cat tree.

Of course I should have been more in touch with the fact that to a cat, just the idea of consciously making a resolution to change anything would be truly acrimonious.  But being intelligent and philosophical about most things, the boys finally agreed to give the idea some consideration.

After a few hours of quiet contemplation, both Sir Hubble Pinkerton and Dr. Hush Puppy jumped on the kitchen table, ready to enlighten us with their Mew Year’s resolutions. Since I don’t want our readers thinking I am breaking any confidences; the cats have given me purrmission to openly share them.

Dr. Hush Puppy will do his best to stop staring at Marty and me with his highly practiced woeful expression while we are at dinner feigning deprivation and slowly starving to death.

Since Sir Hubble Pinkerton is keenly aware that one of his favorite pastimes aggravates my husband intensely he will try his darndest to stop chewing on his brother’s ears, getting them all wet, sticky and “disgusting” when Marty is in close proximity.

While these two promises might not seem like a big deal to most folks, Marty and I were overwhelmed since the cats were making huge sacrifices just taking them under consideration. Of course, the proof is in the pudding, but I will keep y’all posted.

Do your pets tell you about any New Year’s resolutions about which they are planning?  Let us know with a comment.

Well, I learned a long time ago not to make promises I can't keep. So, out the door with New Years Resolutions. Most all of my pets are on special types of food. Now this is not a cheap way to go, but very necessary. So they will eat what the vet says in order to keep them from getting ear infections, getting too fat, etc. Yes, Happy New Year!

Oh I guess here the resolution was to sleep closer to the wood stove....leave a little more room on the bed for momma and poppa....don't leave dead mice on the foot of the bed (dead snakes are still allowed ) and to not get bombed on catnip so often. :) For those who don't know...our cats are indoor cats with a fully fenced and roofed outdoor play yard. That is where they find their prey. UGH!! THose are some pretty important resolutions here. Now we just have to wait and see if they keep their promises. LOL PS: To Kathryn: Bostons rule!!!

Yesterday, for the first time since they have been together, my 2 little dogs actually growled at each other, fighting over a banana peel. We had a long talk, and I made it clear that this was never to happened again. Their resolution is that the Shih Tzu will always back down to the Boston. They came up with this themselves. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Oh, what a priceless photo ;)

Well, The Magnificent 7 have so far succeeded in getting their humble handmaid to fire up the ol' drill-driver and affix the dining room cat window perch to the sill so it won't fall every time one of them tries to sit on it ;( And they've succeeded in polishing off quite a bit of fresh chicken, giblets and yummy broth ;) But actual resolutions? NAH!
