According to a report from NBC Chicago, a new baby gorilla of an endangered species has been born at the Lincoln Park Zoo.

The baby gorilla, a female western lowland gorilla, is the first of this species born at the zoo since 2005. She was born to first time mother, 15-year-old Bana, and father Kwan, a 22-year-old silverback belonging to the zoo.

The gorilla is all set to make her debut this Tuesday morning at the Lincoln Park Zoo when it opens to the public.

This gorilla's birth is special given the conservation status of western lowland gorillas. Western lowland gorillas are currently endangered, with a CR (critically endangered) conservation status. They're estimated numbers in the wild are between 150,000-200,000.
