National Veterinary Technician Week celebrates vet techs, vet care professionals that aid and assist vets.
They're the folks you see most when you take your dog, cat or bird to the vet; they greet you, they welcome you, run tests and monitor your pet's vital signs. More likely than not, you interact with them more than your actual vet. They're knowledgeable, friendly, and in their line of work for the intense love of animals that they share with you. They are veterinary technicians, also known as vet techs for short.
And this week, from October 14-20, has been set aside as National Veterinary Technician Week. Its aim: to celebrate these knowledgeable individuals who have dedicated their professional lives to the service of their animal patients.
All across the country, people are partaking in celebrations and recognizing vet techs. This year, Petside is also partaking in this celebration; each day this week, we'll highlight various aspects of this vet care professional that you may not know too much about!
The theme of this year's celebration is that these folks are "T.E.C.H. savvy", with the acronym standing for what a person in this line of work is (Technicians, Educators, Caregivers and Healers). And it could not be more truthful; without these vet care professionals aiding and assisting our vets, pets would not receive the high quality care that they need.
So if you're visiting the vet this week, be sure to give a quick shout out to the vet tech that helps you. Let them know you appreciate the work they're doing to help your pet stay healthy!
Are you celebrating National Veterinary Technician Week, or do you know anyone that is? Are you yourself a vet tech? Let us know in a comment!

I am blessed with some incredibly wonderful vet techs at Florida Wild Veterinary Hospital, and I think our cats feel the same way. These folks deserve a great deal of recognition for the incredible work they do.
So happy that us vet techs get a whole week of recognition!
