Is My Lazy Puppy Sick?

Q: I recently adopted a 9-week-old puppy about a week ago. We were expecting an energetic pup for our son to play with. She is the exact opposite. She lies around all day and hardly reacts if we touch her or pick her up. Should we be alarmed or is she just taking in the new home?

A: It can definitely take time for a puppy to get adjusted to their new home. It is also a big change to be separated from their litter. Young pups sleep for many hours of the day.

All new puppies should be examined by a veterinarian. Discuss your concerns with your vet who will be able to diagnose any underlying illnesses that may affect your new pet's activity level.
