Most destructive Dog Breed...

Published September 14, 2008
They might be tiny, but when it comes to destroying things in the home, the pint-size Chihuahuas can be monsters, that's what a new of list of the world's most destructive dog breeds claims. The peewee pooches are ranked just behind Great Danes in the list conducted by pet insurer Esure. According to the survey, Chihuahuas and Great Danes clock up repair bills averaging $1,376 dollars and $1,420 dollars respectively during their lifetime. Bulldogs, dachshunds and beagles also made the top 10, with pugs, Saint Bernards and pointers among the least ruinous. The survey of more than 3000 dog owners found the items most often damaged were soft furnishings and electrical goods - used as makeshift chew-toys - and vases and lights, knocked over by wagging tails. Almost two-thirds of owners had paid to repair or replace damaged items, with most breakages caused by puppies. The results showed a dog's size did not indicate its wrecking capability. Furniture damage aside, I am still part of the pet-owning majority faced with rising veterinary costs. Just this week I got ot breath a sigh of relief when my Vet had run out of a non-essential vaccine scheduled for Maxi. Of course I want my Sheltie to be as healthy as possible, but postponing the vaccination allowed for a few human essential purchases. The debate continues whether tgo spring a few hundred dollars for a full dental overhaul, including anesthesia. Some of my friends are saying this is the new Vet hustle, with many alarming pet owners unnecessarily about the risks connected to gum disease. On the other hand, preventive dentistry for humans is completely acknowledged...

Preventative dental care for pets is a good financial investment, as I learned in the good old school of hard knocks! My cat had to have two teeth pulled because she had severe tooth decay and gum disease. Her mouth smelled like a sewer, and I'm guessing the teeth and gums hurt. It would have been cheaper for me to just get her a preventative cleaning, which would have saved her teeth.

Owners of nasty-dispositioned small dogs seem to think that nasty behaviour is "cute", when a big dog behaving in exactly the same manner would be put down for "behaviour problems". C'mon, owners of little dogs, stop encouraging them to be vicious!

I've had Chihuahua and mixes of all of my life...the only destructive one is the one who has me now (-: He had been mistreated by previous owner, and had a fear of straps/leashes and would chew at anything that looked like one. He soon calmed down, I talked to him about it (tone of voice) and he soon stopped doing it. I don't believe in bad dogs, as a rule, but owners that upset them.

I for one take the responsibility and discipline of my dogs very seriously. The difference is, I use non-violent approaches to teaching my dogs how to behave. It may take a bit longer, but it works without turing your dog into a ankle biting menace. Not all dog owners are lazy and not all small breed dogs bite.

Its due to the fact people who own these little ankle biters NEVER discipline or take responsibility for them. I've seen tiny little dogs pulling aggressively at the end of a leash, and the owner act like they couldn't control the 3 pound terrorist. I've been bitten a few times by peoples little ankle biters and not even received an apology or heard the damn dog chastised. Big dog owners tend to HAVE to correct their dogs more.

I do believe that dental care on your pet is necessary however some people are not qualified to do the dentals correctly therefore . wasting time and money as there will still be underlying problems with the animals , heart disease gingivitis etc, so find a reputable dental vet clinic . someone who specializes in dentals . and give your pooch the care he deserves , if your pets breath still stinks horribly after a dental chances are they are just cleaning teeth not doing the needed extractions etc that need to be done , ex if you pull a tooth ,,you cant charge to continually clean it therefore have them rotten teeth extracted , as its best for your pup . or start with a reputable vet , dental rinse , cet chews .td dental treats and other fine dental products and if all that is done maybe poochs mouth want stank . fix the problem before there is one much love .. dog lover number one

Hey, Anonymous- Your comment was a waste and proves exactly why we hold our dogs to be more important than humans.
I'll save a dog or any other animal before I save a destructive and disrespectful human.
