Did you choose one of the most common pet names for your furry friend?

Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) has released its list of the most common pet names of 2008. It searched its database of over 466,000 registered pets to find the most common--and most unusual--names given to cats and dogs.

Unlike pet names of the past like Fido and Rover, "people" names are now dominating the lists, with one name taking the top spot on both the cat and dog lists.

Other pet owners got creative with their pet's monikers. Names making the most unusual list include Meatwad, Edward Scissorpaws and Sparklemonkey.

I have two cats - Maine Coon mix - Caesar was already named from the rescue group (gorgeous black, handsome boy that he is). When I adopted his little brother from the same rescue group I had to rename him (they called him Cadbury as he was trapped 2 years ago this Easter), so I called him Cicero - the great orator and sometime friend of the great Caesar. Sums up their relationship really, brothers, but boy can they get into it! History repeating itself. The loves of my life!
