Meet Lil Bub, a cat who has become an Internet sensation!
Lil Bub the cat has been burning up the internet lately. Have you heard about her yet? Even though I'm officially on the dog side of the fence, I couldn't help but fall in love with this adorable little kitten, who recently took over the always-popular cute photo factory BuzzFeed.
I got lucky ... Lil Bub granted me an interview despite her grueling media schedule!
You are a very unique (and adorable) cat ... can you tell us more about why you look the way you do?
Hello. It's me, BUB. Well WHY I look this way... that's hard to say. No one really knows why. I was born to an otherwise normal, healthy litter of feral cats. All my brothers and sisters had normal kitty features. I was the runt of the litter, and came out a little different.
I have an underdeveloped lower jaw, and my teeth never grew in. This is why my tongue is always hanging out. Turns out not having teeth was a happy accident, because if they grew in they'd stab the roof of my mouth! I also have a funny shaped face with big, bulging green eyes. It makes me look amazing.
I also have dwarfism, which means my limbs are disproportionately small. My body is also tiny and unusually long. I weigh in at 4 pounds. I am also polydactyl, which means I have some extra toes. I have on extra toe on each paw... 6 in front and 5 in the back. Despite all of my weird anomalies, I am a very happy and healthy cat. My biggest challenge is getting around due to my short limbs, long body and odd bone structure. But I have a fierce appetite, I am highly intelligent and very social.
So you don't have any teeth at all. How do you eat?
That's right, I have no teeth! I eat just like any other cat. We cats don't have molars like humans, we don't need to chew our food, although some cats chew a little to make it feel like they are killing something. Our teeth are designed to hunt, kill and dismantle prey. The pieces of prey that we swallow are about as small if not bigger than our kibble pieces. If you've ever cleaned up cat puke, you'd see that when cat's throw up, the pieces of kibble are usually fully intact. So I eat dry food with no problems at all, although I prefer a mix of wet and dry food.
Where did your person find you?
I was found by my friend's mom in a barn just outside of Indianapolis. She took me in because she noticed I was very tiny and different from the rest of my litter, and would need special attention. My friend tried finding me a home and introduced me to my dude, who gave me a home immediately.
What's the best part about living with your person (your "dude")?
Everything! He gives me the best food ever, gets me medicine to help with my joins and bones, he takes me wherever I need to go (on the bed, to my food dish, up to the window) and treats me like a queen. I'm very lucky to have him.
What's your favorite thing to do?
Oh, I have several. I like sitting in front of the window and staring at stuff. I also like cleaning my dude's arms and beard. I LOVE eating. I will also indulge in some string chasing on occasion. I particularly enjoy going outside with my dude to chase after ants and moths.
You went on TV recently - did that make you nervous?
You know, it wasn't that bad. I must say, I handled it pretty darn well. My dude was pretty stressed out though. Poor fella.
How do you feel about dogs?
You know, dogs are kinda alright. They definitely pique my curiosity. If given enough time, I can warm up to particularly sweet dogs like my friends Sammy and Dan. I'm not so sure about other cats though. They are so catty.
