Meet Cheri Lucas

When Cheri Lucas founded the Second Chance at Love Humane Society fourteen years ago, her goal was to find homeless dogs a loving family to call their own. She succeeded: Second Chance has rescued more than 2,000 dogs, giving them a new life in a caring home. It hasn't all been smooth sailing, though. Cheri was immediately faced with the numerous behavioral problems that dogs in shelters lose their lives to.

Cheri found a solution with new training methods when she met her very own miracle man-"The Dog Whisperer's" Cesar Millan. As they bonded over their Central American heritage, she became one of only three people he has ever trained. With his coaching, Cheri began using exercise, discipline, and direction to rehabilitate her shelter dogs. Passive pet owners are often the main cause of their dog's improper conduct. Cheri Lucas believes that reestablishing a leadership role is key.

Cheri now runs Dog Behavior Workshops to provide pet owner's with insight into their dog's psychology and to teach techniques to resolve bad behavior. Here, she shares some of her tried and true tricks of the trade as she answers some of our toughest questions.
