A British man hailing from Portsmouth has been sentenced to jail time for attempting to microwave his pet cat.

Sources with BBC News say that Stephen Stacey, a 20-year-old British man hailing from Portsmouth, has received a 16-week jail sentence for doing the unthinkable: attempting to microwave his pet cat.

According to the police report, Stacey's cat, originally named "Comeonthen", had singed for after being in the microwave for at least six seconds.

The cat, who has since been taken in by the RSPCA, has been renamed Nancy. The cat could recover and be released for adoption at some point in time.

As a result of his pretty unthinkable actions, the Portsmouth man has, on top of his jail sentence, been banned from ever being able to own a cat or dog again.

This is a pretty bizarre story, for sure. What do you think, though? Was the penalty for this Portsmouth man enough? Let us know your thoughts in a comment!

It amazes me how certain people try to throw comments about abortion or race into every topic in America. This story is about animal cruelty period!

Prisoners love pets because they give unconditional love. (That's why you see on TV prisoners training puppies) Once other inmates find out what he did i think he'll get a far more just punishment.

It should have our pacquiao vs bradley dreams, not just the ones for tomorrow and next week, but all of our dreams of all that we hope to achieve and even a little cancer central bit about how we are going to get there.

Damn right he should get more prison time and he should be made to go on an 'animal abuse register'. He obviously enjoys hurting vulnerable animals, what happens if he microwaves a baby next time? To be clear Anonymous 02-23-2012 09:34am I don't think there are millions of babies killed and no prison time given. Where the hell are you dragging that information up from?

So most commenters here think he should get more prison time. This man doesn't have the right to kill his own cat, but a woman has the right to kill her own baby.

Messed up world. To be clear, I think what this man did is disgusting as well. I just think it is sad that so many come to the defense of the cat, yet millions of viable babies have been killed and no prison time was given for those parents.
