Blog Paws 2012: Lady Luck Allows for a Big Win at the Catification Lounge

Lady Luck allowed for a raffle win at the Blog Paws 2012 pet conference.

Kate Benjamin, the owner of Modern Cat  and a kitty lover extraordinaire, warmly greeted my husband Marty and me the minute we stepped into the Catification Lounge. This spectacular room devoted to all things feline was the “go to “place for cat lovers at Blog Paws 2012, a recent conference we attended in Salt Lake City.

Marty and I were both extremely impressed (to put it mildly) with the huge assortment and variety of fabulous products and the other delightful items on display which are specifically designed for cats. Do your kitty a favor and visit the site to check it out!

Since each and every one of her products are calculated for the enrichment of the life of any feline whose guardian who loves spoiling kitties, I felt like a kid in a candy store wishing to sample each and every piece of the intriguing handiwork exhibited throughout the room.

As we were preparing to leave, Kate invited us to enter our names in a drawing for the opportunity to win one of the gorgeous items on display at the end of the conference. We hastily filled out our information on the entry blanks, folded them and dropped them into the box.

Since I never hit the big time with raffles, I didn’t give our chances of winning a second thought, because it appears that the gods who choose winners aren’t aware of my existence. Whenever I buy a ton of raffle tickets, play a lotto game, or purchase scratch off cards to win money, I always come up empty-handed.

So you can just imagine my excitement when on the final evening of the conference, as I was getting dressed for the farewell dinner, my cell phone whistled to me with an intriguing text message sent from the Catification Lounge.  “You won!  Come pick up!" And to think that I almost decided not to enter for the chance of winning one of the fantastic items for which Modern Cat is famous.  Purrhaps one of the gods whispered to me without my knowledge.

We rushed over to the Catification Lounge as quickly as possible, eager to find out what extraordinary prize we may have won. Much to our delight the treasure awaiting us was a gorgeous collapsible kitty bed hand-crafted by Etsy seller SassMuffins. Its unique feature is when dismantled, it can be stowed for traveling into its very own drawstring sack. After admiring it and proudly showing it off, we took it completely apart, folded it up and stuffed it into its container. The kitty bed was so soft and cuddly; we could hardly wait for our cats to give it a go.

Since we were overloaded with a huge amount of swag which consisted of cat food samples, treats, toys, T-shirts, booklets and goodies which were handed out abundantly by conference exhibitors we were quite concerned about how we could manage to bring it all home. Excess baggage was out of the question! Fortunately UPS set up a special shipping service making it possible for everything to arrive a few days later, right to our front door.

The minute the kitty bed was re-assembled, Sir Hubble Pinkerton and Dr. Hush Puppy gave it a thorough going over.  Since a picture is worth a thousand words, their reaction to their new sleeping accommodation needs no further comment.

The only thing any of my pets have won is their home with us. IMHO, any pet that lands in a good home has won the grand prize.

The Catification Lounge ROCKED!!! Miss Moderncat and Peter did a fab job of setting up what was for the cat loving contingent one of the biggest highlights of BlogPaws. The prizes were fabulous -- I won a handmade bed from TheCatBall.com that's kind of shaped like a taco and the cats LOVE it. And it was a kick watching the cats in attendance do some ad hoc product testing. Thank you, Kate and BlogPaws for the Catification Lounge!

LOL I love this story. What a wonderful prize. Our cats have won things in the past. We filled out raffle tickets at our county fair several years ago. It was a nice surprise that they won several things including a car care kit, a box of topping for ice cream and a night out on the town for poppa and momma. :) I just laughed when the winners were announced over the PA system at the fiar grounds. I was the announcer too. One woman asked, " What kind of weird person names their child Dustbunny.?_
