Karl Lagerfeld is talking about whom? What?

Karl Lagerfeld by Charlotte Reed

Karl Lagerfeld is the proud Pappa of a nine-month-old kitty, named Choupette. Since June 6, she has been tweeting about her privileged life from an iPad.

According to Wikipedia, “a diary is a record with discrete entries arranged by date, reporting on what has happened over the course of a day or other period. A personal diary may include a person's experiences, and/or thoughts or feelings, including comment on current events outside the writer's direct experience. Someone who keeps a diary is known as a diarist.”

Over the years, we have read many diaries; some have even been made into movies. These include: The Diary of Anne Frank, The Diary of A Wimpy Kid, The Diary of A Mad Black Woman, The Diary of A Manhattan Call Girl (a personal favorite) and Foodies Diary.  But, the newest diary that has been the talk of the town with fashionistas, hipsters, pop culture junkies, celebrities and socialites is: The Diary of Choupette.

If you haven’t heard, Choupette is a nine month old kitten of Karl Lagerfeld. She is reported to be a Siamese by some sources; others list her as a Persian. Personally, I think she looks more like a Ragdoll

Whatever breed she may be, she once belonged to the beautiful, Baptiste Giabiconi - a French model and singer.

Giabiconi, currently the male face of Chanel, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld, has been described as the world's highest paid male model. To give you an accurate description of his beauty, in 2009, supermodel Naomi Campbell met Giabiconi in Moscow and told him, ‘ “It’s not right: We all have defects. You have none.”

But perhaps that is not the case. It seems that Baptiste may be a little too trusting. Over the Christmas holiday, Giabiconi left the kitten in the care of his boss and rumored to be ex, Lagerfeld, who fell in love with the cat and refused to give her back. (My thought: “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away...” Job 1:21.)  It seems the buzz in the fashion industry is that Karl spoils this kitty rotten and can’t stop talking about her.

In an interview with WWD, Karl talked about his kitty lovingly, saying:

She is like a kept woman. She has a strong personality. She has lunch and dinner with me on the table, with her own food. She doesn’t touch my food. She doesn’t want to eat on the floor. She sleeps under a pillow and she even knows how to use an iPad. She has two personal maids, for both night and day. She is beyond spoiled ... When I am not there, the maids take down, in little books, everything she did, from what she ate, to how she behaved, if she was tired, and if she wasn’t sleeping. In the nine months, we already have almost 600 pages. Colette had written a lot about cats. I am not Colette, but I think it could be funny to make a little book of Choupette’s diary.

Moreover, at the opening of “The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld Exhibition” at the Swiss Institute in New York City this past Wednesday night, June 6th, he spoke of her, too.

Perhaps his constant mentions of her inspired a fan and cat lover to open and pen a Twitter account for her. Whoever is “working” that Twitter account is doing a super job because Choupette is one of the hot kitties around with almost 4000 followers in a mere two days.

On her Twitter page, she reveals that Chanel is her catnip and describes herself as a famous beauty who doesn’t eat on the floor. Additionally, she informs the reader that she is "one spoiled pussy."

While I enjoy her tweets, I wanted to offer some words of advice for rising feline star. See our conversation as set forth below.

@ChoupettesDiary Dearest ChouChou u can never b 2beautiful , 2smart & 2spoiled. Don't b a whinny Siamese. Just be kind.

@CharlotteReed Kindness isn't exactly my thing but I'll consider it.

I call her ChouChou (dearest little one) and continue to communicate because I am amused by her flirtatiousness, charm and wit. She is truly a coquette. See remarks from her her diary:

@ChoupettesDiary “Don't be confused, Daddy gushes more over me than he does Kate Middleton. There's only room for ONE princess in the Lagerfeld chateau.

@ChoupettesDiary: “Humans always ask me which I prefer, Paris or NY. Parisians understand me but NY has giant mice...#ToughChoice”

@ChoupettesDiary: “Maid, fetch me my freshly cut meat & crystal servingware MEOW!”

@ChoupettesDiary: “Today's Goals: Bat my kitten lashes for catnip, knead the tweed, contemplate how to dye my white locks pastel.”

@ChoupettesDiary: “In my 9 months I have pawed at more Chanel than most women will see in a lifetime. I bask in your envy.”

@ChoupettesDiary: “Baptiste may think he is a muse but only I, Choupette, am Lagerfeld's true muse. Everything from my whiskers 2 my meows inspire.”

Once again, as amusing as she, this dear girl, delivers the truth with a bite. According to Vogue’s Creative Director Grace Coddington, Choupette has provided Lagerfeld with inspiration for his Summer 2012 Couture Collection. “It was the blue of the cat’s eyes that inspired him,” she says.

Cat lover Coddington, the author of The Catwalk Cats, has known Lagerfeld since the 70’s. She admitted that she was surprised that Karl had fallen head over heels for an animal--a cat.

“I never really thought of him as an animal person… Anna Wintour and I had been visiting him to preview his new collection, and at one point, he started showing Anna pictures of his cat. She was completely disinterested, but I practically ripped the cell phone out of his hand to see his new kitten. Anna was not happy; she wanted to preview the dresses while Karl and I talked cats,” she said.

When asked what advice that she would give to Karl about his cat, she said “Everyone has been talking about how Karl is spoiling the cat, but that’s okay. Everyone thinks that cats are so independent--they really love to be spoiled. Spoil them and they will love you, too!”

I had a German I had a German Shepard (Buck) I got from the shelter. The dog could do antnhiyg on command. I almost got him a subscription to Barron's LOL He's gone now. I now have a Whippet named Skippy. He's not as smart as Buck but he's the sweetest dog I ever owned. When he's not running like a bullet he's snuggling and laying on the couch. He's a 90 mile hour couch potato. House trained at 13 weeks!! Clean as a pin and they live a long time. I got Skippy because Whippets live long and healthy lives. Was this answer helpful?
