Meet Jordyn Wieber, an Olympic athlete and pet owner!

The London 2012 Olympics are almost upon us, and when they begin Team USA will shift gears to compete at the highest level on the world's biggest stage. While these athletes represent our country as the top performers in their given sport, they also cater to a different cause on the home front. That's right: some of these Olympic athletes are no different from us in that they are pet owners, too!

In an effort to capture the spirit of pet lovers on the Olympic level, we've set to profiling a few stellar pet-owning athletes. Today, we profile pet lover and world class gymnast, Jordyn Wieber! Wieber, who earned top honors as 2011's World All Around Champion, will compete for USA gymnastics in London, and has her sights set on a gold medal We had the chance to talk with Wieber about her pets as she gets ready to embark on her Olympic journey!

1. What kind of pets do you have?

I have a Shorkie dog.  It's a combination between a Shitzu and a Yorkie. She is 9 pounds and 4 years old.

2. Tell us one of your fondest memories of your pets.

My dog, Lucy, does handstands when she goes potty.  It's so funny because she balances on her front two paws for a really long time-- it's like she's a gymnast.

3. Tell us: Do you train with your pet?

No- but we did take Lucy to the gym one time and had her up on the balance beam.

4. Do you travel with your pet when you train or compete?

No, I can't travel with Lucy.  She is staying with my grandparents while I'm in London.

5. If your pet could compete in any Olympic sport, what would it be?

Lucy would definitely compete in gymnastics!!

We have two friends. One a Border Collie, two a Blue heeler. They are our two best friends and we love them. I am an invalid and when I need air they will stand beside me so I can hold on and not fall down. We live in the country and they stick close to home. We just love them and they are wonderful.
